Lisbon was considered the "Best Leisure Destination in Europe" by the North American business and leisure magazine Global Traveler, in the 6th edition of the Leisure Lifestyle Awards. The magazine chose the Portuguese capital for the "excellence that fate provides tourists" and placed it in the top of a list of ten countries. Readers highlight the "diversity and quality of the tourist offer", placing it ahead of cities such as Prague, Rome, Paris and Venice.

Last year there were about 600,000 tourists from the United States who visited Portugal. The numbers increase from year to year and these visitors look for several different places, from the islands of the Azores and Madeira, Lisbon, Porto and Douro.

Chinese tourists spent 130 million euros on Portugal last year, a year-on-year growth of 40%, which is catching the attention of Portuguese retailers, said Tourism Portugal source.
